There are wine brands – and then there’s Nederburg Yours to Explore. It’s the kind of brand identity that doesn’t just appear on a bottle, but on mantelpieces, menus, and memory reels across South Africa. Industry icons need a reboot every now and then to remain relevant and stay on trend. Not because they’ve lost their spark, but because they’ve decided to light up a new room. And so, on a moody winter’s evening this past week in June, guests were ushered into Nederburg’s barrel room, not in silence, but with the smooth sounds of a live saxophonist and the warm crackle of a welcoming fire.
Mercedes vans rolled in, painted the bold red that now defines the brand’s elegant facelift. We raised our glasses, emptied our plates, and the clear message echoeing across the venue – Nederburg isn’t just evolving. It’s inviting.
🎯 A Reset, Not a Rebrand

Let’s be clear, this wasn’t a gimmick. Launched under the banner, “Yours to Explore”, isn’t a departure from its heritage. Rather, Nederburg’s new look is an expansion of it. Backed, of course, by their new owner HEINEKEN’s, heavy-hitting clout to maintain the brand’s top-tier status.
As Brand Manager Nipho Shongwe explained, the idea isn’t to discard history but to unlock it. Translating a legacy into this new, vibrant visual and sensory language that resonates with today’s wine drinkers. They’re curious, social, digital, and wonderfully diverse.
“It’s immediately recognisable as Nederburg but stylistically presented with greater flair and friendliness to show what a welcoming, free-spirited brand we are, whomever and wherever you are. Our messaging makes clear that Nederburg is ‘Yours to Explore’.”
Gone is the traditional formality of old-world wine communication. In its place? A playful red livery, a redesigned crest, and a national campaign that speaks not only to the loyalist but also to the next generation of wine lovers – Gen Zs, millennials, and anyone with a palate and an Instagram account.
Gen Z isn’t here to play by the old rules; they’re sipping smarter, not harder. And Nederburg’s rebrand? Nailed it.
This is a generation that’ll trade a night of cheap plonk for one stellar glass of something real -natural, organic, and unapologetically sustainable. They don’t just want a wine; they want a story, a vibe, a planet that’s still standing when they’re done. Nederburg gets it. And if the early buzz is anything to go by?
Yeah, they’re all in.
💡 What Does It Mean to “Explore” a Wine?
This isn’t just about terroir or tasting notes. It’s about the places wine can take you – emotionally, socially, even imaginatively.
With Baronne leading the charge – that beloved blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz – and a refreshed look across The Winemasters range, the message is simple:
Whether you’re sipping at a rooftop picnic, celebrating over braai flames, or hosting a dinner party in your shoebox flat – there’s a bottle of Nederburg with your name on it.
The brand’s new design cues aren’t just aesthetic either. Anchors, shields, crowns – each element gives the nod to Nederburg’s 200+ year history, but also hints at adventure, sustainability, and reinvention. It’s a brand that knows who it is, but isn’t afraid to dance to a new beat. (And dance we did, by the way – the DJ got everyone onto the barrel room floor.)
🌍 Why “Nederburg Yours to Explore” Matters
In an industry historically cloaked in elitism, Nederburg’s shift is more than a facelift, it’s a philosophical gear-change.
“There is a table waiting for you in places you can’t even imagine,” the new tagline says. And it’s true. Because the best wines aren’t just drunk, they’re shared. And the best brands aren’t just remembered – they’re relevant.
This is wine not as status symbol, but as social connector. Not as something locked behind tasting room doors, but a friend that belongs at your table, wherever that may be.

🥂 The Verdict
We went for the wine. We stayed for the philosophy.
And we left knowing that this isn’t just a bold move by a legacy brand. It’s a love letter to the future, dressed in red, filled with flavour, and ready to make new memories.
Congratulations on the reset. It’s not just Nederburg Yours to Explore. It’s ours too.
