All About The Cape Town Cycle Tour 🚲

A cycling event that started as a bunch of mates wanting more bike-friendly streets. Fast forward, and here we are, witnessing the transformation of the Cape Town Cycle Tour into a global sensation. The cycling craze in South Africa owes a big shoutout to this tour, paving the way for bike lanes and safety projects. Attracting a staggering 35,000 cyclists from around the globe, this major cycling event has secured its spot as the largest timed cycling event on the planet.
Cape Town transforms into a cycling hot spot as participants take on a 109 km journey starting in the City Centre. The route weaves through breathtaking spots like Simonstown, Chapmans Peak, and Suikerbossie, providing cyclists with amazing views. With approximately 16 refreshment stations and 6 medical points strategically placed along the route, participants are ensured a safe and well-organized cycling event.
But it’s not just about the race; it’s about giving back. The tour urges riders to pedal with a purpose, supporting charities and making a positive impact on local communities. What makes this event even more special is its commitment to giving back. Run by a dedicated group of at least 2500 volunteers, the non-profit initiative pits all proceeds towards two deserving charities, the Pedal Power Association and the Rotary Club of Claremont.
Beyond the main event, Lifecycle Week adds more layers of excitement, featuring events like the Junior Tour, Tricycle Tour, Mountain Bike Challenge, and the Expo. As the cycling community converges on Cape Town, Greenpoint Stadium transforms into a carnival ground. Hospitality tents, entertainment, and an overall atmosphere of joy make this more than just a race, it’s a collective celebration of the spirit of cycling. So, whether you’re a participant or a spectator, get ready to soak in the energy, enjoy the ride, and experience the magic at the Cape Town Cycle Tour!
