Sold Ash returns for their first show of 2023 with a 7-piece live band and an electrifying set that includes brand-new unreleased material and 2 drummers.

Joining them will be the incredible GAZE, who have prepared an exclusive collaborative performance for the night. The set includes new songs from their debut EP that’s set for release early next year.

After the bands, FIENDS will be opening up the dance floor down at Surfa Rosa for their debut DJ set! The Glitch Culture DJs will then take over and finish off the night.

SOLD ASH

As 2019 came to a close and a strict lockdown hit South African shores, Sold Ash’s melodic noise rock was born. This experimental and dynamic project is the brainchild of Cape Town-based producer/musician/engineer Ruan Vos.

The 28th of April 2020 marked the release of Sold Ash’s self-titled debut EP. A volatile but cathartic set of tracks punctuating the silence left by the worldwide pandemic. It quickly drew a cult-like cohort of fans, eager to catch the sonic sorcery live as soon as the lockdown ended in October.

Bewitching and wild, Sold Ash’s live shows combine the abrasive and explosive energy of noise/punk with the sustained, cathartic waves of droning sonic manipulation.

Crafted as an immersive and celebratory act, Sold Ash draws in a crowd of instantly devoted viewers. All sinking as one, into

sustained, cathartic tones.

Initially starting out as a droning, noise rock trio, Sold Ash has evolved into a transient 6-8 piece line-up. Taking on heavier, more melodic hooks without sacrificing any of their lush, lingering foundations. Their influences stretch from Sonic Youth, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Kills, Radiohead and The White Stripes to A Place to Bury Strangers, Sigur Rós, Portishead and many more.

Sold Ash’s debut album ‘Howl a Little Louder Just Don’t Spit in My Mouth’, released 26 August 2022, with a new album in the works that’s set for release 2024.

GAZE

GAZE is a Cape Town-based band that merges the angst and intensity of ’90s alt-rock with the lush soundscapes and nostalgia-soaked sensibilities of dream-pop and shoegaze. GAZE writes songs with the intention of conjuring a cinematic and cathartic experience for anyone that wishes to soothe and explore their existential dread with them while reflecting on lost love and sharing moments of bliss with the people that you care about.
