show by KhiweG live at The Commons
KhiweG, hailing from the breezy shores of Gqeberha, is a gifted Afro-Soul/Jazz musician known for her enchanting voice and lively spirit. Her musical journey is a celebration of her roots, as she beautifully weaves the rich tapestry of IsiXhosa, her native language, into her songs. Remarkably, despite not having formally studied the language, she dedicates herself to thorough research when it comes to her songwriting. This commitment enables her to not only capture the hearts of her audience but also explore the diverse sounds and genres that can be illuminated using Xhosa folk music as her creative foundation. KhiweG’s dedication to her craft is a testament to the power of passion and the universality of music in touching the soul.
“Ukuthula” truly promises to be a remarkable event, set to unfold on the 29th of September 2023 at The Commons, Muizenberg. This show is a powerful testament to the enduring silence in which Black Africans have often suffered and triumphed. The strength and resilience of our people have been the steadfast pillars that have upheld us through generations and centuries, whether in times of joy or deep despair. As I stand here today, I am living the wildest dreams of my ancestors, and I take immense pride in the fact that I, along with my fellow community members, shall persist in our journey to thrive and succeed.
