Black Major And Slow Life Present Bokani Dyer – Radio Sechaba Album Launch

September 28 @ 21:00 - 21:30

R250

“Sechaba means ‘nation’ in seTswana and I had long been thinking about what makes a nation, in relation to the current moment in South Africa, and how to capture that in my own music”

Bokani Dyer

Multi award-winning artist, acclaimed pianist, composer and producer, Bokani Dyer is launching his new project, Radio Sechaba at The Olympia on September 28th. Although Dyer has earned acclaim as a solo artist and with his trio, he says Radio Sechaba is the first comprehensive musical expression of his deep thinking on these issues.

“Most of my music, up to this point, has been instrumental and for Radio Sechaba I am singing much more. Adding words, and a literary component, is a much more direct way of sending a message”

Radio Sechaba was released through Brownswood Recordings, the independent label founded by DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson. The connection to Peterson came when Dyer par-cipated in Indaba Is, a Brownswood Recordings project, recorded in 2020 over 5 days, outside of Johannesburg. “Brownswood Recordings is the perfect label for Radio Sechaba,” says Dyer, “Gilles is known for being a global tastemaker. To be joining Gilles’ label is a dream come true for me”.

Join us for an unforgeTable show with one of South Africa’s most iconic Jazz masters, pushing sonic boundaries in a moment in -me he describes as “divine synchronicity”.
